APC calls for probe of Supreme Court judgments
This call was made by the Akwa Ibom chapter of the party who are displeased with the court verdict that upheld the election of Governor Udom Emmanuel. Supreme Court Dr. Amadu Attai, that chairman of the APC in the state, in a statement explained that the probe of the Supreme Court would help to restore the dignity of the court, The Punch reports. Attai said: “We believe the leadership of the country and indeed all Nigerians should not sit and watch the judiciary collapse under the watch of the current Chief Justice of Nigeria.
We, hereby, call on the President to arrest the drift in the third arm of government by probing the rot in the Supreme Court.” He added that the apparent attacks on the Supreme Court following its judgment on some gubernatorial election petitions indicated the lack of confidence in the court, by several members of the public.
The state chairman further pointed out that these kinds of judgments portend grave danger for the nation if not properly managed as people who felt to have been denied justice might resort to self-help. In a related development, APC in Rivers state had stated that the revelation of Governor Nyesom Wike about how he won the state gubernatorial poll dispute at the Supreme Court as an indictment on the court.
