Girl With Huge Head Tumour Undergoes Life-Saving Operation

A girl who was living with an extremely rare and huge tumour growing from her skull for four years has finally had it removed in Uttar Pradesh, India.
Renu Singh was born with a small cyst on her head but as the girl grew the tumour increased in size too, leaving her in unbearable pain. One day it became so big and heavy — reaching 2,5kg — it threatens her eyesight and even life, as it could have exploded at any time.
Renu had the tumour from birth, but it grew slowly bigger over time and one day would have ruptured
Her mother Pramila said: “She was a normal child but as she grew, we noticed a lump growing in the middle of her head. At first we thought it was just a boil and would go but it only grew bigger with time. She would cry if I touched it or led her down for sleep. Alarmed by her unknown condition we started taking her to doctors and were finally told it is a tumour and she can die if not operated soon.”
Renu is the sixth of seven children, but none of the others suffer from the same condition
The girl’s parents, Pramila, who works as a domestic help and her husband Kumar, farm labourer, could do little but wipe away their daughter’s tears as they couldn’t afford any treatment. But there are kind people in the world, who shared her story online and after several months the girl was taken to hospital.
The little girl cannot lie on her back due to the pain caused by the tumour
Renu was eventually diagnosed with occipital encephalocele — the tumour, one of only two known cases in the world. Although the operation was risky the doctors cannot wait, as any postponement could have killed the toddler.
