12 die as trailer rams into 2 vehicles in Edo

Twelve persons, on Wednesday morning, died in an accident that occurred at the Benin bypass on the Benin-Sapele expressway.

The accident was said to have occurred when an articulated vehicle with the number plate XA 905 BBJ rammed into a Volkswagen car marked FUG 833 AA and a Toyota Hiace bus marked BEN 621 YY.

Corpses littered the road as motorists and sympathisers made efforts to rescue sone victims who were trapped in the car and the bus.

Some of the victims were said to have died either on their way to the hospital or minutes after their arrival at the hospital.

The accident was confirmed by the Edo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr. Oluwasusi Familoni.

He, however, said that eight people died in the accident

He added that the injured victims of the accident were first rushed to a private hospital in Benin, while the bodies of the dead were taken to a morgue.
